What If Things Go Right?

Just the other day, I found myself faced with a challenge. Instantly, I found myself automatically thinking about all that can go wrong. Have you ever been in this situation?

I'm assuming we’ve all been there—our minds racing with the infinite "what ifs." Too often, though, those thoughts spiral into imagining every possible way things could go wrong. What if I mess up? What if I fail? What if it’s a disaster? It’s human nature—our brains are wired to foresee danger and prepare for the worst.

But what if we dared to ask: "What if things go right?"

Shift Your Mindset:

This mindset shift can be a game-changer, particularly for those taking on monumental challenges—like the CPA exam. The CPA journey is often accompanied by anxiety and self-doubt: "What if I don’t pass? What if I’m not cut out for this?" Yet, there’s incredible power in flipping the script. What if all your hard work and late nights pay off? What if the concepts click, and the exam day feels like the culmination of your success story?

Don't Plan to Fail:

One of my mentors once shared a profound truth: “We don’t plan to fail.” It’s simple yet transformative. Instead of being consumed by potential setbacks, approach your goals with the belief that success is not only possible—it’s probable. This mental shift can make all the difference when tackling a challenge as rigorous as the CPA exam. Your focus changes from avoiding failure to pursuing triumph.

Adopting this "What if things go right?" mindset doesn’t just ease your nerves—it fuels your preparation. When you start studying with success in mind, you’ll notice you approach each topic with more confidence, resilience, and clarity. It becomes less about fearing the material and more about mastering it.

So, whether it’s preparing for the CPA exam or pursuing any of life’s ambitions, let’s stop planning for failure and start dreaming of success. Let’s not just ask, “What if things go right?”—let’s live as though they will.
