While studying for the CPA Exam, you might find that other areas of your life are put on hold. Family, friends, loved ones, your health (both physical and mental) ... The pressure to study endlessly can lead to burnout and stress. Embrace the concept of "addition by subtraction": take breaks to recharge.
It's perfectly okay to step back and breathe. Pausing allows your mind to process and retain information more effectively. Remember, balance is key. Life will continue to throw challenges your way, and it's important to prioritize your well-being. By incorporating breaks and understanding that it's okay to rest, you'll find yourself better prepared and more resilient.
Personal Story:
"Addition by Subtraction" is something that I had to learn the hard way. I figured if I was studying four hours a day Monday - Friday, and eight hours on Saturday and Sunday, then I would pass all of my CPA Exams in no time. Something I didn't factor in was all of the "other stuff" going on in my life. While studying, I had a full-time job at one of the largest accounting firms in the world. Also, I was moving from one city to another. Oh yeah, I can't forget about trying to get adjusted to a new phase in my life - adulthood.
The intense schedule quickly led to burnout. Balancing 36 hours of study with full-time work and life's demands took a toll on my physical and mental health. Constant fatigue and stress affected my focus and productivity. I realized that adding more to my plate wasn't the answer. Taking breaks and prioritizing well-being became essential for success. Tune into our next blog post to see how I prioritized my well-being during my CPA Exam journey.
